WATCH How Ted Cruz Handles Persistent Reporter Trying To Corner Him Into Attacking Trump

There is one thing that Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz will not do in this 2016 presidential race.

The Texas Republican won’t tear down fellow presidential contender Donald Trump.

Cruz ended a reporter’s repeated questions about Trump and his thoughts on a federal database for Muslims with one response.

“Listen, I like Donald Trump. I recognize the media would love to get me and other candidates to attack Donald Trump,” Cruz said. “There may be other candidates who want to do that — I ain’t going to do it. So, I’ll tell you my policy views, but I have no interest in attacking Donald Trump or, for that matter, attacking Ben Carson. Both are good men. And I’m not interested in throwing rocks at either one of them.”

Cruz did answer the reporter’s questions about the idea of a database, but absolutely would not take the bait to lash out at Trump even after several attempts by the reporter to do so.

“I’m a big fan of Donald Trump’s, but I’m not a fan of government registries of Americans citizens,” he said, referring to a database that would keep tracking information on all Muslims within the United States’ borders.“The First Amendment protects religious liberty, and I’ve spent the past several decades defending the religious liberty of every American.”

Cruz has sided with Trump on other matters, including security issues. The two even headlined a Capitol Hill rally in late summer to protest President Barack Obama’s negotiated deal with Iran. In that case, Cruz invited Trump to the event. On Tuesday, Trump said he would put Cruz as a favorite for a potential running mate.

Trump has been targeted for his most recent comments related to a database for Muslims. The billionaire said he didn’t come up with the idea, but the suggestion came from a reporter. He has said in several interviews that the United States needs to have a better watch list and monitoring of Muslims within the country and that this nation’s security depends on it. He also said he would support a database-type of system to monitor Muslims.

if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.
