Despite laws, prescription abuse still plagues Tennessee

Editor:  What our “leaders” no longer understand, but our nation’s framers knew well: Government is incapable controlling an immoral person, one who cannot control him or herself.  The more immoral a people becomes, the less self regulated we are as a people, the more government and laws are required.  Yet external control always breaks down.  It cannot work.   The answer, said John Adams, is “a moral and religious people.”  Nothing else yields a free nation.

More than 1,200 people died in the state from overdosing on powerful painkillers in 2014.
