In yet other example of the danger lurking outside our door, Swiss authorities have confirmed that two ‘Syrian refugees’ have been apprehended on suspicion of transporting hazardous materials in their vehicle for a planned terrorist attack.
According to reports the individuals were arrested for allegedly transporting both “explosives and toxic gases” in the “Geneva region” which authorities believe were to be used during a planned attack. At the time of the arrest, trace amounts of explosives were discovered in the vehicle and the two men were charged with “manufacture, concealment and transport of explosives and toxic gases.”
According to France 24... The two are also being held in suspicion of violating a Swiss law prohibiting “groups like Al-Qaeda, Islamic State and similar organizations.”
Geneva, which is close the the country’s French border, has been on edge since theParis attacks last month. That edginess became more acute last week, when Geneva was one of three cities intelligence sources said may be targets for Islamic State group attacks.
As a result of the foiled plot, officials in the Geneva region raised the terror alert level to ‘three’ on a five-point scale and deployed armed police to sensitive locations across the city.
