A photo making the rounds on social media shows two men, one of whom appears to be dressed in traditional Muslim religious garb, loading a significant number of propane tanks into a truck in Florida.

The photo, which was purportedly taken Dec. 9 outside a Home Depot store in Miami, shows the two men loading approximately 30 propane containers into the back of a truck.

“Why would anyone need that many bottles of propane,” the Facebook poster asked. The original post, from user Tracy Cottrell, had been shared over 2,000 times, and the story has reached other social media outlets as well.

The odd propane buy has many on edge after the recent news that the FBI is investigating large cell phone buys and stolen propane tanks in the Missouri area.

According to Fox News, about 20 tanks of propane were stolen from a BP gas station in Lee’s Summit, Missouri in late November. Then, on Dec. 6, a further 28 tanks were taken from a locked area outside a CVS store in Independence. Terrorist organizations such as the Islamic State group have also shown just how they would use propane tanks in a situation like this.

At almost the same time, large cell phone buys were made at Walmart stores in the Missouri cities of Columbia, Jackson, Cape Girardeau, Lebanon, Ava, Jefferson City and Macon.

At least three dozen phones each were purchased at the Macon, Jefferson City, Lebanon and Jackson outlets, while Ava reported a “large number” of cell phones bought. Authorities fear that the cellular phones could be used to detonate propane tanks remotely in a terrorist attack.

One of the men buying the phones in Ava left his personal phone in the bathroom, which led to a police investigation.

“While speaking with Walmart employees, the subject who left the phone returned to the store to get it,” a statement from the Ava Police Department posted on Facebook said. “Officers spoke with the male subject, who was of Middle Eastern descent, and asked for identification, which was provided.”

“People take all sorts of things that are odd,” Independence Police Officer John Syme told the Kansas City Star regarding the propane robbery. “But it’s definitely something that would be a ‘see something, say something’-type situation, where you definitely want to be on higher alert. There’s a lot of different things that can be done with propane tanks.”

Considering President Barack Obama’s determination to bring in 10,000 refugees from a part of the world that breeds terrorism — and the public criticism Donald Trump has received for proposing a pause in Muslim immigration into the United States —  that’s something to be concerned about.
