Via Robert Gehl:
Working together, Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell stifled any debate or discussion of the behemoth $1.1 trillion spending bill.
It was a coup, as Breitbart reports, and serves as a perfect example why an anti-establishment politician like Donald Trump is so popular.
The video of their disgusting act is on C-Span, below, at the 3:02:00 mark when Republican McConnell and Democrat Reid walked together onto the Senate floor during some speechifying by other Senators.
Mid-speech, Maine Rep. Susan Collins announced “I see that the Majority Leader and the Democratic leader and I believe it would be appropriate for me to yield to them.”
McConnell thanked Collins then immediately began reading out the rules for the vote:
“I ask unanimous consent that when the Senate receives a message from the House to accompany H.R. 2029, the Majority Leader be recognized to make a motion to concur on the House amendments, further that if a cloture motion is filed on that motion, that notwithstanding Rule 22, the Senate immediately vote on the motion to invoke cloture, that if cloture is invoked, all post-cloture time be yielded back, the Majority Leader or his Designate be recognized to make a motion to table the first House amendment, that following the disposition of that motion, and if a budget point of order is raised, the Majority Leader is designated to be recognized to make a motion to waive the point of order, and that following disposition of that motion and the Senate the vote on motion to concur on the House amendments with no further motions or amendments in order, unless the motion to table is successful, or the budget point of order is sustained, and with two minutes of debate, equally divided, in the usual form, prior to each vote.”
There was going to be a call for an objection, but before the words “Is there an objection,” could be uttered, off camera, Harry Reid responded “No objection.”
And that was it. Sen. Jeff Sessions promised to object and require a debate. So did Sen. Marco Rubio. But this was planned when both were off the floor.
And that was it. The American people were betrayed by Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell.
Without debate, public scrutiny, recordkeeping or anything resembling a deliberative body, the United States Senate swept through $1.1 trillion in spending.
It’s disgusting and demonstrates why the American people – left and right – have had enough of “business as usual.”
