12:10 p.m.

President Barack Obama is spending part of New Year’s Eve playing golf with friends at Ewa Beach on Oahu.

He chose a warm, sunny day to hit the links at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club on the west side of the island.

Obama is playing with high school pals Greg Orme, Bobby Titcomb and Mike Ramos. All four were classmates at Punahou School in Honolulu.

Earlier in the day, onlookers waved and took photos as Obama’s motorcade left the Kaneohe Marine base after he worked out at the gym.

As the motorcade pulled into the neighborhood where the first family is staying over the holidays, a few people held up signs that said, “Open Cuba. Close Gitmo.”
