“I think there’s quite a few of them who are really good people,” he said.

He also talked specifics, saying Trump matched the mood and the need of the times.

Eastwood also showed his respect for one other candidate.

“I like Ben Carson because he is kind of a common sense guy,” he added, before summarizing, “Any one of them would be better than what we got.”

Eastwood last appeared on the American political stage during a 2012 speech at the Republican National Convention, when he addressed his words to an empty chair. He said no repeat speech is in the offing.

“They might not want me this year because I’ll be talking to chairs and doing something stupid,” he joked.

Eastwood has said that although the delivery of the speech might be something he’d like to reconsider, the content is not.

“I’d probably say something else,” Eastwood said, “but I’d try to get the same message across so that people don’t have to kiss up to politicians. No matter what party they’re in, you should evaluate their work and make your judgments accordingly. That’s the way to do it in life and every other subject, but sometimes in America we get gaga, we look at the wrong values.”

Eastwood’s comments come after Trump announced that one of his events over the past weekend was a private event with Eastwood. When the announcement was made, the Twittersphere exploded with comments praising the 85-year-old actor/director.

“You’ll be rubbing elbows with a real patriot, Mr. Trump. Many Americans respect what Clint Eastwood has to say,” tweeted @futureicon.
