“The fact is, sensible gun laws work, we’ve proven it in California, and we’re not going to give up,” the senator said in a press conference on Thursday. “In California, since the 1990s, we have passed a number of important gun safety laws,” she added. “And over that period of time, we have had a reduction in gun violence of 56 percent.” “Now clearly what we see is, this is not enough. That is why we need national laws,” she added. Earlier in the day, Boxer took to the senate floor to urge her colleagues to pass an assault weapons ban, The Hill reported.

“The scene looked like a war zone, and there’s a reason for that,” she said. “Again, because these weapons, they’re designed for the military, they’re designed for the police. And I have to be honest with you, sir, I have never heard one persuasive argument about why anyone else would need to have this type of weapon.”

“These weapons of war, they just don’t belong on our streets or in our communities,” she added.

The senator said Congress must “take action now, before something like this happens again.”

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh wrote on his Facebook page following the shooting, “California has some of the most strict gun laws in the country. Gun control’s not the answer to this San Bernardino shooting. It never will be the answer to something like this. And more and more reasonable people with common-sense understand that.”

He pointed out that California already has many of the measures liberal politicians seek including an “assault weapons” ban, universal background checks, magazine ammunition limits, and none of that prevented attackers from doing the evil that was in their hearts.

As reported by Western Journalism, gun violence has dropped drastically since the 1990s, with or without an assault weapons ban in place. According to the Justice Department, the homicide rate dropped by 50 percent and non-fatal crimes involving guns fell by 70 percent, between 1993 and 2011.
