The new Hollywood movie about the 2012 terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya, was briefly mentioned by Texas Senator Ted Cruz at the end of Thursday’s GOP debate; but it is front-runner Donald Trump who has taken the next step to help promote the movie, and voters in Iowa are going to be the beneficiaries of Trump’s move.
Donald Trump has rented a theater in Urbandale, Iowa, in order to host free showings of the new Michael Bay-directed film, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. It is a film that many expect will aim a shot directly at the leadership of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama.
“Mr. Trump would like all Americans to know the truth about what happened at Benghazi,” Trump’s Iowa co-chair Tana Goertz said, as reported by the Des Moines Register.
The real estate mogul is paying for all tickets for Friday’s 6 p.m.showing at the Carmike Cobblestone 9 Theatre in Urbandale.
“The theater is paid for. The tickets are paid for. You just have to RSVP,” the Trump operative said.
The short synopsis for 13 Hours states that the film depicts the actions of six members of the Annex Security Team who assemble to defend the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, from an attack by Islamic militants.
The director, who is responsible for such films as the Transformers series, worked closely with surviving members of the team depicted in the movie; and they have testified that he stayed pretty faithful to their recollections.
But according to Politico, the movie will “re-ignite” the debate over claims that the team was issued a “stand down” order and told not to go save the lives of those four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, who were killed by the terrorist attack.
Still, one of those whose actions are depicted in the film says there is no controversy.
“There is no sensationalism in that: We were told to ‘stand down,’” former Special Forces Officer Kris Paronto, one of the CIA contractors who fought that night, told Politico. “Those words were used verbatim–100 percent. … If the truth of it affects someone’s political career? Well, I’m sorry. It happens.”
Politico reports that Democrats are continuing to say that these American operatives who were on the ground during the attack are lying about receiving a stand down order.

But as Kenneth R. Timmerman recently noted, “All evidence now points to a specific stand-down order issued by Secretary Clinton, since the Libyan facilities came under her direct authority. Without a specific request for assistance from the State Department, the Pentagon was powerless to act.”
