Robert Gehl reports Obama budget cuts funding for counter-terrorism but raises taxes by billions:
Because he can’t even say “Radical Islamic Terrorism,” Barack Obama doesn’t see it as much of a threat.
In his most recent budget proposal, the Obama Administration is proposing to cut counterterrorism programs by almost $300 million.
Whose side is he on, anyway?
Even some Democrats can’t believe Obama would cut funding, especially after the San Bernardino attacks.
Chuck Schumer is demanding Obama reconsider and restore full funding for counter-terrorism operations:
“These proposed cuts are ill-advised and ill-timed and they must be reversed. End of story,” Schumer said in a statement to The Associated Press. “In light of recent attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, and the vow by our extremist enemies to launch more attacks on our shores, it makes no sense to propose cuts to vital terror-prevention programs like [Urban Area Security Initiative].”
Schumer, who decried the cuts at a news conference on Sunday, said the program is necessary to adequately fund counterterrorism programs in high-density urban areas like New York City.
“New York City remains terror target number one and the NYPD relies on these programs to keep us safe,” he said.
In New York, a portion of the funds are used for the fire department’s response training and the NYPD’s counterterrorism training programs and the active shooter training course. The money also helps pay for teams that patrol at local airports, transit hubs and waterways. Elsewhere in the New York area, the funds cover the cost of other training exercises, including multi-jurisdictional response drills.
The budget also cuts money states received for homeland security from $402 to $125 million.
Why is he cutting funding for counter-terrorism programs? It’s not like Barack is lowering taxes or anything. Rather, his proposed fiscal year 2017 budget calls for $3.4 trillion in tax hikes over the next ten years, including an idiotic proposal to tax every barrel of oil by $10.
“This budget’s misguided priorities include a crippling tax on energy and gas, an expansion of the disastrous Obamacare, and billions in new spending for his pet projects, while decimating critical homeland security funding,” Rep. Daniel Donovan (R-New York) said.
