In many ways Portlandia is the most libertarian (not all the time, but often), most subversive show (at least that I know of)* on TV. They diagnose the problem we see on too many college campuses brilliantly here.
Many of our kids have been taught to seek safety and to avoid risk. That failure is utterly shameful. That being pushed out of one’s comfort zone isn’t a way to inner growth and grander vistas but something which must be mitigated whenever possible. That someone will always save them. Indeed that they can’t operate on their own.
I believe this mentality is a big reason why at least some kids find socialism’s all pervasive state so appealing. They don’t want to leave the womb. They want the state to surround them and to maintain their “safe spaces.” Risk is for the birds. Comfort is where it’s at.
This is not the only reason some like socialism by any means but for the “social justice warriors” (SJWs) I think it largely is.
I will also add that people who think this way, who have been raised in and have embraced “safe spaces”, are easily manipulated by powerful interests.**

**I am not saying that The Surfrider Foundation is a “powerful interest” just to be clear. At one point I may have even been a member.
