Hundreds attend Christmas parade in Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, West Bank (AP) — The town revered as the site of Jesus’ birth has held a festive Christmas parade.

Colorful floats made their way down the streets of the West Bank city of Bethlehem on Sunday.

Biblical themes featured prominently, with nativity scenes and the three wise men drifting past the crowd. Santa and his elves were also in show, dancing and energizing the crowd.

The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem is built atop the site where Christians believe Jesus was born.

There are about 150-thousand Christian citizens in Israel, but Christians currently comprise less than 2 percent of the population of Israel and the Palestinian territories.
