This Is What Cliven Bundy Was Trying To Say

“That shows you how unhinged from reality this guy is, you’ve got to distance yourself.”
~Glenn Beck referring to Cliven Bundy

by Loren Edward Pearce

As I watched Cliven Bundy emerge from the Las Vegas courthouse, a free man, one of the people to greet him was a black woman who told Cliven how much she supported his cause. Cliven told her, as he affectionately placed his hand on her shoulder, how much he appreciated the black prisoners who treated him so well. If I recall correctly, Cliven said they treated him like a king and he was humbled and grateful.

Is that the talk of a racist?

Ammon Bundy, in a recent speech comparing many government power brokers (not all) to robbers, Ammon spoke about how the media was relentless in portraying his family as the bad guys. At the 41:00 mark, Ammon gives a long explanation of how white Europeans exploited and robbed the black natives in Congo of their land and resources.

Later, Ammon tells how a high ranking man in the prison system met with Ammon privately and told Ammon he was going to Africa to do service and what would Ammon suggest would be the best way that he could help the African people. Ammon told him that he should help them get their land and resources back so they had more control over their own destinies and could escape the cycle of poverty and social decay that they found themselves in.

Does that sound like the son of a racist?

Dinesh D’Souza Says It Better

I watched a speech by D’Souza who addressed a heckler who asked him to prove that the Democrats are racists now. As I heard him expound on the history of racism propagated by the Democratic party, I said to myself, “Bingo!”. This is what Cliven Bundy was trying to say!

D’Souza lays out the proof that the Democrats were the pro slavery party and that the Republicans were the abolition party. Lincoln was a Republican.

In answer to the challenge by the heckler that the Democrats are no longer racist, D’Souza answers by showing the vast centralized government system of socialized welfare, actually makes things worse for blacks, and therefore, is racist. The Democrats are known for their bias in favor of large, centralized government with large socialist welfare programs.

D’Souza compares the slave plantations to the 2 dozen Democratically controlled inner cities of today. He says that the slave plantations had 5 things in common with these 24 inner cities:

  1. Broken down, dilapidated housing.
  2. Broken families with missing fathers and the family in decay
  3. High degree of violence. Police state, barbed wire, etc.
  4. Shared poverty. Everybody got free housing, free medical care but nobody got ahead.
  5. Despair and intergenerational loss of hope, a feeling that this is just the way it is.

The Democrats launched the War on Poverty in the 1960’s but they are no better off today than they were in the 60’s although trillions have been spent on various social welfare programs.

Cliven, when describing the black families on welfare in the government housing in Las Vegas, had good reason to wonder if they are really that much better off than what they had on the plantation.

Thomas Sowell, a Marxist black activist*, tends to agree with Cliven:

The blacks in the West Indies had all sorts of experiences growing their own food, selling the surplus in the market, and, in fact, being responsible for budgeting what they had. Black [slaves] in the United States were deliberately kept from having that. Dependence was seen as the key to holding the slaves down. It’s ironic that that same principle comes up in the welfare state 100 years later.

The black family survived centuries of slavery and generations of Jim Crow, but it has disintegrated in the wake of the liberals’ expansion of the welfare state.”

Cliven Bundy’s comments were not motivated by racism, they were motivated by a deep feeling of sorrow for the blacks and what a large, irresponsible federal government was doing to them. Cliven knows that when one is deprived of property, when independence is replaced by government dependence, then we and our posterity are facing the same fate as the blacks that he saw in slums of Las Vegas.

And it is that concern for them that was felt by the black inmates who treated him so well.

The word ‘racism’ is like ketchup. It can be put on practically anything – and demanding evidence makes you a ‘racist.’”
~Thomas Sowell

*A self-proclaimed Marxist in his twenties, Sowell served in the United States Marine Corps. (during the Korean War). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, his masters from Columbia University, and his Ph.D from the University of Chicago. It was at the University of Chicago, under the tutelage of Milton Friedman, and after his short stint as an economic analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor, where Dr. Sowell lost faith in government institutions’ ability to effectuate positive outcomes in society. Dr. Sowell has taught economics at Cornell University and UCLA and has been a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University since 1980.

if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.
