“Heaven and earth,” the glory-presence of God, and the last days |
The “Heavens and earth” of the Creation narrative feature throughout Scripture as the throne and footstool of God. He appears in glory and fire in these spaces. He speaks to his people through these images and commands his people to copy these images in particular places. We see these themes appear throughout the cosmos, tabernacle, temple, prophets, pillar of smoke and fire, the “last days,” and more.
These images play a central role in how God speaks of the covenant order, and the passing of “heaven and earth” in Jesus’ words and the NT have particular significance in this respect. We need to pay attention!
